Hi all,

Not sure where i am going wrong.

I needed to make some adjustements to my db, so i used the database utilities and linked table manager, selected "always prompt for new location" and then selected the be.
I made the adjustments and now have tried to split again, when i use the wizard to split it asks where i want to place the be and then says the db has no tables the be will be empty.
I had linked it back together so not sure what i am doing wrong, can anybody advise? Access 2003

Many thanks.

If your Current situation is that of a Front End and a Back end with the Tables linked then all new Tables should be written directly in the Back End and any mods to the Tables should be done in the back end.

If you have other tables in the Front end then export them to the Back end and then link them using NEW Linked Table.

You can refresh your links in the manner you have described.

If you still have problems then DELETE all front end tables and relink them.

Make sure you have back ups first.

The splitter function works by taking an Access db with everything (tables, queries, forms, etc) in 1 database, and then splitting it into the traditional front end/back end design (2 databases).

If you already have a database that is split, splitting it again will not have any effect, regardless of the way it is linked (i.e., if you try to split the front end, there are no local tables, if you try to split the back end, there are no queries, forms, etc).

It's hard to give you advice as I don't know what your "adjustments" were. If you changed table structures in the back end, then I would suggest deleting the linked tables from the front end, and then re-linking them.

Good luck.

Hi,

All i did was add another field in to the relevant table in the be and added the field to the form in the front end.
Now i have made the adjustements i need to spit it again and redistribute to the users.
When i added the field to the be and viewed the fe field list the new field was there, i assume because i had linked them back together.
Now when i need to split it again it says there are no tables in the be.

Hi Louisa

You don't need to split it again. You can only split a database if it has tables in it.

If your split database which you have made changes to is working as you want it to all you should need to do is redistribute the FRONT end and provided the location of the back end remains the same and people have the same relative links as your own computer on which you made the changes (map drives etc)

It should work.

Lightwave is correct.

Copy your FE and put the copy in a different folder. You will find that it will still work the same as the original.

You now only need to worry about the BE if you add a new Table.
