O.K as simple as this may be, is it possible to automatically insert the report creation date (a field). The only date I know to put in changes to the current date each time you view it.

Have a look at the Document collection, Properties collection and the DateCreated Property. I did not do any experimentation with these, but they ought to do what you need...
