Default data in a field.

How do I make sure that for every record entered, a certain field automatically has a number 1 in it? I thought that it might be that you set the Default Value to 1 by typing "1" in the bit where it says "Default Value" at the bottom of the page. But this doesn't seem to work.

I am surprised that you say it does not work because that is exactly how you have access set a default value.

Heavens, you're right. It hadn't done it for existing records, but has for new ones!

Yes, the default value is for new records only. It does no affect old records.

Just use an Update query to update the nulls for the old records with a 1 in that field.
