Default Value

Is there a way to have the database default a field to a value above it? example

Field 1 Field2 Field3
__0001 ABCD Jay
__0002 EFGH Jay
__0003 IJKL _____

I would want my record in field 3 to look at the blank and put in Jay for me?
is this possible?
