I have downloaded a number of sample databases over the past few months, and notice that some of the downloads are executable files (*.exe file extension), taht extract the db into a specified location.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how and what program could be used to create these executable files.

Your help is much appreciated.

there are two ways you can do that!

1. you can use winzip or winrar to archive your files and make it an executable files to unzip it to where-ever you wanted it to.

2. you can use package and deployment. what version are you running in?

Hi

I am using Access 2003 and do have WINRAR - but never looked at making these fiels executable.

Would not know where to being on the Package and Deployment - if it is an option available to me.

Thanks for your help.

i dont know if that option is available for you. I think if you dont have that option, you have to purchase that license for you to be able to distribute your package.

Marianne is correct the Package and eployment wizard was in the developers edition of 2003 which included Access runtime which allowed you to deploy your database to people without access installed.

The 2007 version however has been made available as a free download I don't know if this is compatible with 2003 never tried.

regards John :)

Thanks everyone - I'll look into package option.

I have already got the zip option to work as an executable.
