hello everyone, so far i have started inventory management with accounting system using access 2007, i completed the inventory management part but dont have any idea in designing of accounting system, I studied about accounting principles and rules kinds of accounts etc... but dont know how to computerize it,,, please anyone any kind of information , ebook, website, tutorial, sample design or database. thanks in advance

My 2 cents worth; Accounting packages have some rather specific requirements, and given the number of cheap packages such as MYOB and QucikBooks to name but two, why spend a lot of time and effort re-inventing the wheel?

Quickbooks even offers an ODBC driver (expensive as I recall) which would allow your Access inventory application to communicate with Quickbooks. I'm with John on this one. I wouldn't even consider writing an accounting system given the reasonably priced solutions available off the shelf.

Both Quickbooks and Simply Accounting (Now Sage XXX) support Excel file export and import, so in the worst case data can be piggybacked via a spreadsheet.

Best,
Jiri

Hi, does your inventory management module covers the conventional costing mechanism (e.g. FIFO/LIFO). This mechanism is important, before you consider integrating it into your accounting system. You might even need to build control and automation in your database to create back-end entries for your transaction posting. I don't think access is able to provide you the function needed to execute such events. You may need to migrate to a high-end DBMS like SQL Server or Oracle to even consider building any serious sprocs or triggers. Read the accounting database design from accountingdes.com if you are serious of expanding your project further into a full-fledged accounting system.
