Hello everyone,

I've been developing simple databases for a couple of people and two things have come up ;

1) One client would like the ability to use the database on multiple pcs without buying a copy of Access for each one
2) I would also like to be able to present a more professional application, with Install wizard, etc.

Can anyone recommend which software to buy to allow me to do these things. The book I use recommended MS Office Developer 2000, but I can't seem to find that anywhere.

(I'm currently using Access 2000 ... and my current clients use Access 2000. If I bought, say, Access 2003 professional, would that allow me to do the above, and also would I be able to distribute Access 2000 applications to those who required it ?)

Sorry for so many questions, but I'd appreciate hearing the views of people who've used these types of packages, rather than trying to figure it out by the blurb on the box !

Thanks,
StepOne

Hello StepOne,

I've been around the block with these questions also. Here is a great FAQ site that can answer a lot of your questions.

I use Acc2003 and as a result, purchased Visual Studios .Net Tools to deploy runtime for my clients. (This included the Install Wizard)

FYI:

Access 2003 [including the Access 2003 Runtime] will not work on a Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME computer.

The /runtime switch for an Access 2003 db will work on a PC that has Access 2003 installed without the Access 2003 runtime being installed on that PC.

Thank for all the replies - very useful stuff.

Access 2003 [including the Access 2003 Runtime] will not work on a Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME computer.

I think that means I had better stick to Access 2000 for the time being then, as I am sure some of the pcs will be running 98 or even 95.

Does anyone know, in that case, a good (i.e. cheap !) place to get a copy of Office Developer 2000 ?

Thanks,
