I have searched the forum and have found a few relevant threads, but honestly I don't understand their answers. The question is this:

How do I use Visio 2007 to diagram an Access 2007 query?

I have some complex queries (some have sub queries and others use results from separate queries) I want to simplify but I am getting lost in tracing all they touch. It would be great to see what they do graphically. Then I can see where I can become more efficient and make improvements.

Any help would be great!

I can only seem to get it to 'reverse-engineer' a single layer of the query. I can get it to pull the query into the diagram with all the fields listed, but it never pulls in the queries which fed into the final query.

I then went into one of the sub queries and pulled it in separately but it never made a connection between them. It kept them separate.

Am I expecting too much from Visio? I thought it would diagram the final query as well as the queries and tables which feed into it all at once.

Diagramming tools leave a lot to be desired. I usually have to do what you're doing by hand.

Last year Alisa had asked for feedback on potential improvements to Access to forward to Microsoft. One of my suggestions was to make the QBE able to drill down into sub-queries. I'm under the understanding that the MS folks liked that idea but whether it will come about or not, I don't know.

For now, we have to do this by hand, though. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong.

Really? This seemed like a basic concept, no? How disappointing.

Well, at least I know why I can't get to display correctly. :)

Thanks!
