A head scratcher. GEICO has been running a commercial which took me a long while before I got it :D.

How many times did you see the commercial it before getting it?

GEICO Words Can Hurt video

Steve,
Maybe you don't remember but most all of the old movies ended with the words "The End" on the screen. The first time I saw the ad I didn't catch the little collision indication with the word. I thought it was a remake of an old movie until I saw it the second time. My wife didn't get it until I explained it to her. I'm sure there are people out there that still don't get it.
Don

Unfortunately it was another stupid ad from GEICO that has no relationship to the product they are selling.

Unfortunately I do. I was recently reminded of that. My daughter was home from college and wanted to see the "Grapes of Wrath" (movie 1940) since it was also a reading assignment, so we checked it out of the library. The ending credits scrolled by so fast, I nearly missed them. Now the credits seem to last as long as the movie. But I do like the little inserts that Marvel Entertainment and "Despicable Me" had.

It may seem counterintuitive; commercials are not necessarily designed to directly sell a specific product to you, but to keep you aware of the company. GEICO accomplished that since I was consumed with trying to figure out the joke. So instead of going to the bathroom, I watched the commercial.

>>>The Grapes of Wrath<<< I watched the film years ago but just did not understand it. I read the book a couple of years ago and with my life experience and knowledge, I totally 'got it'.

I recently saw the film and realised with the combination of both aspects; the book and the film; how powerful and tragic and informative the story is.

"Getting" the book is as much about Steinbeck's masterful writing as it is about your life experience and knowledge.
The movie was just a shadow of the book. I didn't "get" it from seeing the movie either, but I did "get" it years later when I read the book.
Same experience with East of Eden. Book was phenomenal., movie was just a so-so vehicle for James Dean to practice slurred speech and glowering looks.
Of Mice and Men they did a pretty good job with, even the orig with Lon Chaney Jr as Lennie. Of course OMAM is a much shorter and simpler story than either TGOW and EOE, and much easier to adapt to the screen.
Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors of all time - his work is so approachable, while being great. A lot of times when you pick up a GREAT book you can feel it's weight and it's a little off-putting. But with Steinbeck, you start to read, and you say, hey, this is a good book - I'm actually LIKING it, and when you're done, you feel the enormity of it but it never intimidated or (more importantly), bored.

Now, can somebody clue me in on the point (if any) of this Geico commerical? Words can hurt? THE END. So the cowpoke's END will hurt after this ride on the horse? What's the deal here? It's going over my head.
I did like the caveman commercials - but easy to see why a spin off series was destined for cancellation.

Libre,
If you watch closely, you will see the cowboy bang his head on one of the letters and then fall from his horse. Maybe that's why they quite putting the words "The End" on the screen. LOL
Don

The question is, can the cowboy get compensated for injuries from running into an imaginary letter (i.e, it does not actually exist in 'his world'). :-)

Can a lawyer sue for monetary damages in a socialist republic?
