Hi everyone,

I have a workgroup set-up with ten users accessing a backend database, with front-end loaded on each workstation. I am using a workgroup, not a Domain. Occasionally users are getting screen freezes, patches, and the the error message "Disk or Network error". I have to Cnt-Alt_Del to get out of the application. Any thoughts on possible causes. The network is using DHCP, and I have noticed some errors in the error log concerning "unable to hold IP, new address assigned" could this be part of the problem ? The problem is that it has been very sporatic, and happens on different terminals.

Any thoughts would be helpful

I don't know the correct term that describes the parameter, but your problem is that your DHCP "IP assignment lifetime" is set too short and/or your site does not allow automatic reassignment of the same IP (via DHCP) for the lifetime of the connection.

Of course, if your users don't log out on a regular basis, this might be your network guru's response that will FORCE them to log out. (Or BE logged out.)

Talk to your network folks. I know this is a parameter for the DHCP server but since I'm not a network admin, I don't remember the name of the bloody parameter.
