displaying udf parameters when called from excel cell

Using Excel 2010 and later.

I have udf, stored in a module with two parameters. It works fine. The issue is when calling it.

If the udf is called from vba code, the names of the parameters are displayed.

However if the udf is called from a worksheet cell, although the function appears in the list, when selected the parameters do not appear.

I know I can click on the fx button, but would prefer it worked the same way as when using say =vlookup

Am I missing something basic or is it simply not possible?

parameters do not normally appear in the cell.
