I have searched and found many references to DMAX but I haven't found the answer to my query which I imagine is basic. I have a new DB for listing serial numbers on manufactured products. I need a unique autonumbering system for incrementing a 4 digit number starting at 1000. I can make DMAX add another digit in another column so I get 1001 however I can't figure out how to get the referred field (EXPR) to take on that value so that the DMAX field will calculate the next number. I hope someone can help as I have mucked around for ages trying to get it to work.
Cheers

Peter

Look at "DemoDMaxStart1000A2000.mdb" (attachment, zip).
Look at Table1, Form1 (fID-Default value properties).
Open Form1 and try. I think it is what you need.

Hi Mstef thanks for the response. It seems to do the job by incrementing the right field but every time I do it it doubles the number of records it adds ie first run = 2 records added, then 4 , then 8

My Field contents are:
Code:
Serial: Nz(DMax("[ProductTbl]![StartNo]","producttbl"),0)+1
