Here's something I've never run into before.

When I came to my present job, I had to take some steps backwards to Office 2000 from XP and 2003.

Here's an issue:
I'm in the middle of creating a database which is on the network. For troubleshooting purposes, I have the db open to enter data (not in design mode). If another user tries to open it to enter data by double-clicking the file, it will not open nor will it start access. However, we can go start access, go to File --> Open and the database will open and operate normally.

This issue is present in the following scenarios:

  1. If multiple users try to use the single mdb file.
  2. If multiple users try to use the single mde file.
  3. If multiple users try to use the same FE of a split db.
The issue is alleviated by deploying a FE to each user. Everything works normally. This is fine and what I've always done and plan to do, but has anyone run into this before?

I've never had this issue in Access XP or 2003.

Just weird.

a possibility

if you are all trying to get the same copy, the first user may have opened in exclusive mode

sunsequent users may be opening in read only mode - you would probably still be able to enter data, but would not be able to modify forms/objects

not sure if this would manifest in exactly this way, though

Yep it's definitely weird. I have found a few threads on it, but no real solution.
