First, if you're going to attach a 2007 db for downloading, here or elsewhere, please let people know that! Relatively few people are running 2007 as yet and it's a waste of time to download it if you can't run it.

Using a combobox to retrieve a specific record is so reoutine that the Combobox Wizard will do it for you! Here's a quick How To:

Create a form based on your table/query, including all the fields you want displayed. Then simply:

Add a combo box to your form. The Combobox Wizard will pop up

Select "Find a record based on the value I selected in my combobox."

From the table/query the form is based on, click on the field you're searching by (your unique part ID number or description) to move it to the right side.

Hit Next.

Size the column appropriately.

Hit Next.

Name the combobox.

Hit Finish.

Now you can drop the combobox down and scroll down to the item to search by, or you can start to enter the item, and the combobox will "autofill" as you type. Hit <Enter> and the record will be retrieved.

Humm 07 dose not have the Select "Find a record based on the value I selected in my combobox." option i can select the column that i am using as my Unique part id. i get the list but nothing happens when i select an item, if i bind the combo to the column it gives me an error saing i cannot have duplicates. is there a macro or VB code i can stick in there so On update it brings me to the corresponding record?

I have not seen A2007 but I imagine it provides the two basic combo functions. One is what you are doing, find a record and the other is to insert data into a field. Should just be a matter of fiddling about. Perhaps Help on the Access tool bar will get you there. If you have not used that before it is similar to the internet in that you enter your criteria and then it will bring up a list and away you go:)
