Hi all,

I am creating a db for dataentry related to a school..my probelm is ,i want to prevent the duplication of names while entering data. Now i can check by firstname only. that is creating lot of problems..can i use "Dcount" to check two fields same time?

if someone can give a advice, that is a very greatful..

thanks in advance

Thanks

preventing duplication of names is not ideal, what would you do if you have 2 different persons with the same name?

Create an autonumber field as a primary field so that all of your records will be unique and then if you're afraid that a student application may be entered twice, use a field such as identity card number as Indexed No Duplicates

Another idea is to use a multiple-field index (see Access Help file) to prevent duplication of values across a combination of fields.
(Note, however, that I agree with maxmangion - it is NOT sufficient to simply use a combination of first and last names.)
