Is there a way to put an editable section into a report?? I have a financial summary which does a lot of automatic calculations and sums them, but there may be misc items the user wants to add to the total.

Can this be added to the form, and the control source of the sum textbox? Something like a datasheet view would be great, because it would allow new entries automatically.

Like you already know, reports aren't made for data entry, so all of its bound controls is read-only.

If you use Access 2007 and above you can have a button that will open up a form for editting.

Ah bummer I was hoping for a miracle there, I need to make this possible. Do you mean open it in design/layout mode?? I can see that causing problems.

Unless you mean a button on a report could open up an embedded sub*form*?? Possible?

A button on a report in Report View (exclusively) to open up a pop-up form for editting a related record. But I think even after updating you will need to refresh the report or reopen it for the changes to be displayed.

NB: Report View is an Access 2007+ feature.

I know I'm bringing this back from the dead, but I still haven't found a good solution to this problem. The user will want to enter amounts/details into textboxes, then have the amounts added to the calculated total. These added amounts/details have nothing to do with the records being reported on, they are just extra wage costs (social club etc).

Can a gap in a report footer expand to accommodate a subreport?

But how is this related to your OP - Edittable section in report? Create a new thread and we'll have a look.
