I think this must be a fundamental bit of knowledge which unfortunately seems to have passed me by. I have spent hours searching for a solution and now must post this question:

At it's simplest Open a blank form at design time. Usually it has it's own form borders which can be adjusted as required.
Mine have disappeared!! and the form is contained in the full screen window

Can someone tell me what I'm missing or what I've done to change things?

Please!! .......

Do you mean that when a new form is first opened in design view, that it is opened Maximised? This will happen if the Database Window is Maximised when you open a form.

Thanks for such a fast response. No, there just isn't a window containing the new form.

There is no way of adjusting the new form window to its content. Never happened before!

The max min close buttons are enabled in properties but only the close is enabled.

When I open a new db I have the same problem. Is there a default setting that I've changed inadvertently? Have you ever come across this before?

Do you mean send you a db with the problem showing?
I'll make a new one and send it...

Below the box in which you type your reply there is an area called Additional Options. Click the Manage Attachments button.
In the window that opens, click the Browse button and select the db to be attached.
Click the Upload button, which will actually attached it.
If you preview your post, you should ba able to see the attachment.

The good news is that you now know how to attach a db to a post.
The bad news is that I use A2003, so a db created in later versions needs to be converted into A2002/2203 Format (mdb) for me to be able to open it, which is why I said in post #6 that it should be in mdb format.:(
In earlier versions this conversion could be done from <Tools> <Database Utilities> <Convert Database> and then select the version required. I expect it will be something like that in your version too.:)

Sorry to take so much of your Sunday Bob
That's OK. If I didn't want to give I'd just turn the PC off:p. Besides, if I wasn't doing this I'd have to go down to the pub for a few drinks and watch the football today.;)

When I tried to open your file the first time I got a maximized form (Form16) in design view, but I can't re-create that, even if I download again. Now evrything works as one would expect it to.
The good news is that I might still make it to the pub (sorry, I meant football):)
The bad news is that I don't have anything else to offer you:(

If you don't get any more help in a day or so, I would suggest posting back.

Thanks for your time Bob. I may well go to the pub as well
