Hey everyone,

I’m Emmanuel Katto from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently at a decision point in my development journey and would really appreciate your input. I’m looking to build a mobile application that will run on both iOS and Android, but I’m unsure whether I should focus on front-end, back-end, or even full-stack development. I'm also trying to figure out which programming language or framework would be the best choice for cross-platform development.

I’ve come across a few options like React Native, Flutter, and traditional native programming, but I'm not sure which would give me the most promising future in terms of career growth and opportunities.

Here are a few specific questions I’d love to get your feedback on:

Which Development Focus (Front-End, Back-End, or Full-Stack)?

Given the goal of building a cross-platform mobile app, which area (front-end, back-end, or full-stack) should I focus on to be most effective in today’s development environment?
If I choose to focus on full-stack development, will I be able to manage both the app’s user interface and server-side logic, or will it be too challenging to balance both?
Cross-Platform Mobile Development Frameworks:

Between React Native, Flutter, and native development (Swift/Kotlin), which do you think is the most efficient and future-proof for building mobile apps for both iOS and Android?
Are there any other tools or frameworks that you would recommend for cross-platform mobile development?
Career Growth and Market Demand:

Based on your experience, which skillset (front-end, back-end, or full-stack) is currently in higher demand in the mobile development space?
Is it better to specialize in a specific area (e.g., React Native for front-end mobile development) or to be a full-stack developer with expertise in both mobile front-end and back-end?
Real-World Development Experiences:

For anyone who has worked on cross-platform mobile apps, could you share what challenges you faced with frameworks like React Native or Flutter, and whether those challenges were worth overcoming?
What were some of the most valuable skills or technologies you learned while building a cross-platform app?
Long-Term Prospects:

In your opinion, which of the following has the most potential for growth and long-term career prospects: front-end, back-end, or full-stack development for mobile apps?
Do you foresee any particular trend in the mobile development field that could influence which area is best to specialize in?
I’m really excited to get started, but I’d love to hear from those with first-hand experience to help guide my decision. Thanks so much for sharing your advice!

Regards
Emmanuel Katto

Maybe you haven't spotted it yet but this is a dedicated Access forum not a general catch all, random free IT consultancy service.
Me thinks you should direct your whims or imaginings to a different forum. I doubt if anyone here has the time to provide you with the dissertation and consultancy you are looking for.

There are two routes you can take I believe, there may be more!

Flutter builds for iOS, Android, Windows, plus?

A web interface works with anything that can access the web.

So I reckon those are your two main options.....

OP, have you tried chat GPT for this stuff? (Seriously.)

I like Access for the desktop environment, the Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerAutomate, etc.) for the mobile environment, and whatever is the flavor of the day for the browser environment.

Is choosing between front-end and back-end for cross-platform mobile like picking your favorite child? Tell me the pros and cons before I make a decision I regret!

Google for pros and cons - it will vary depending on your requirements

Broad, open-ended questions are not good fodder for a platform like AWF, unfortunately. You can invest dozens of hours in researching the pros and cons.... Asking people here to invest that amount of time on your behalf might not garner a strong response.

Let ChatGPT invest its time on your behalf. It has a lot more material to work with anyway. And it's faster.

Which Development Focus (Front-End, Back-End, or Full-Stack)?
Groovy new terms. The answer is - what do you like to do? What are you good at? Do you want to define databases? Do like to write code? Do you want to just layout static web pages? Back-end design has probably the widest need and is the most easily transferable skill. If you can design a relational database with SQL Server, the same skill set is used for Oracle, DB2, and Jet/ACE, etc.

Access is one of the few "full stack" tools but it doesn't require a proprietary BE (except to store its own objects). It works with any RDBMS that supports ODBC.
