Error opening database

I have a small database that we've just started using here at work. Every now and then when someone tries to access it they get the following error:

"The database has been placed in state my user 'Username' on machine 'machine##' that prevents it from being opened or locked"

I have tried to recreate this error on purpose in hopes of discovering what is causing it, but so far I've not had any luck.

Any ideas would be greatly apprciated.

The named user has probably opened the DB exclusively. This is something you can prevent one of two ways.

1. Access & Workgroup security, controlling the privilege to open the database exclusively.

2. Torture devices applied to the indicated username. The more public the application, the less likely you are to get a repetition of the undesired event. Particularly if you don't wipe up the blood stains right away.

Please consider the two options in the order given. If you reach the point where option 2 is required, I don't want to know about it.
