I'm using Windows XP. I ran a foxpro query to make a DBase III table. The table is linked to an access database. I can use/look at/design change the table on other comps, but I can't from my comp. What do I need to do.

Do you get any error messages when you try and link the table on your PC. I am wondering whether it is an accessing problem or you don't have the drivers installed.

same error

When I link, everything is normal until the end after I hit okay. The it says the same error message of "External table..."

same error message - "External table is not in expected format." This is the message I get when I try to run a query using that linked table, when I try and link at (after I have selected it), when I try to open the table, or change the design view.

I am having the same problem.

I have Access 2003 with linked tables from a Paradox database. It has been working fine on one computer. Having trasferred the Access DB to a new computer I expected to have to update the link locations for the paradox tables.

I have 2 error messages,

"External Table is not in the expected format" when I try to create a new link to a paradox table.

"Application-defined or Object-defined error" when I try to update an existing link.

does anyone have any new ideas ?

I am guessing it may be that the version of access on the new computer does not have all the updates that have been run on the older computer, although both have had SP2 installed. If it actually is an update issue does anyone have any idea how to get the new computer up to speed with respect to updates as they are not all essential ?

Any ideas appreciated.

When using an externally linked table, you must have the "translators" for that table format already on your system and you need references to same.

The "translators" are defined during Office/Access install. You can usually re-install Office or Access to update the on-machine configuration, add or remove features, etc. The "translators" you want are available from there.

Once they are installed, you might need to reference them, which you can manage by opening any module page, then following Tools>>References.
