I'm having a problem with linking dBase III files using Access 2000. On any computer in my office that uses Windows 98, we can link/use any table that is in dBase III format. However, anytime we install Access 2000 on a computer running Windows 2000 professional or Windows XP, the exact same databases will give us an error w/ those linked tables saying, "External table is not in expected format." EXCEPT, two of our computers, both using Windows 2000 Professional, do not have that problem. The can link/use these tables just fine.
I talked with our network guru and he told us that because dBase III files are so old, that's where the problem occurs. He recommended that I used the same MDAT and JET files the 2 successful comps are using. I checked out the two comps that work just fine, and they are using Service Pack 5.0.2195 Build 2195. Any of our new computers end up using 5.1.2600 Build 2600 from the Service Pack 3 found currently the microsoft.com website.
I really need help with this. I either to need to find out how I can get our other comps to this Build 2195 pack or someway to fix this linked table problem on our other comps. I tried searching on the microsoft.com website for this Build 2195 pack, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Please help if you can.
