Hi All,

For some strange reason, a replica db is being created along side the original. I don't believe it's a back up since the name back_up usually appears in the file name. I've seen it happen once when the proper mdb file was opened and then noticed the new db was created (always called db1.mdb). It's a permanent file mdb file and not the record locking icon. I remember over the summer someone posted a similar problem but I haven't been able to locate that thread. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Scratch,

When you do a Compact/Repair operation, Access does the following:

Opens db1.mdb (or db2 or db3 ...)

One-by-one it copies each object in your present database into db1.mdb

If it is successful, it deletes your current database and renames db1.mdb
to the name of your current database.

Now, as to what failed, try importing your forms, then tables, then reports,
etc. into a blank database. When it errors, it should narrow down the
suspect object.

I've also seen this happen on a machine where the currently logged in account did not have delete permissions in the folder where the database resides.
