File Attachments

I have a database that has one table that contains notes and may reference a document. As it is helpful to be able to bring up an electronic version (.pdf, .tiff, .doc, etc.) of the source document, I then 'attach' (or rather link) to the file using a hyperlink field. My questions are:

• Is this the best way to link/attach files?
• If it is the best way, can you get rid of the security messages saying that 'Hyperlinks can be dangerous' that comes up when you click on the link?
