Filtering A Continious Form...I think

Hi All,

I have a continious form that displays over 500 records. Is there a way to sort through this form based on hitting a key, or indexing the alphabet...or maybe even another idea (for a given field)...in an effort to get me to a record needed quicker.

If that's not clear, in other words...I need to be able to jump through the continious form in a quick fashion, so if I'm searching departments, I don't need to scroll through the whole form to get to the Departments that start with "t"...I hope that's better.

I did that once in a database I built. I put a combo box with the letters of the alphabet and in the afterupdate event I just had it do a find record using the first letter of the item that the control I was in had.

So, if I was in the grantee field it would find the first grantee starting with that letter. If I was in another field it would find the first instance of that.

I was gettin bored so I did it the only way I knew which actually worked out pretty good. I put a command button on my form that ran a query with all of the same information checking the field i wanted to search by, so you hit the button, type a "s" and you get all of the departments with a S on another form. A simple back button and you can do it again.

If I ever have to do it again I'll give your option a shot...take care.

I forgot to mention an important thing. In order to get the right control to search through, I had to use the Screen.PreviousControl method to be able to reference which control to base the search on, as clicking on the combo box set the focus on itself and the search wouldn't have a field to search on as it was currently on the combo box. I hope that makes sense.
