Filtering Based on Query

Alright everyone, please take it easy on me not advance user here.

I have a master table, and search form. Trying to search for specific things using the form from table. I decided to create a query with specific number, or job number or size. And so far if i specify before searching i get that specific results, but when i don't have anything in search i get everything, is there a way i could tell it to ignore or messagebox saying its not valid or whatever. And when i have entered something and doesn't have any matching data instead of opening table could it close itself? Just trying to figure this out.
