This is driving me nuts. Two questions. #1 - When searching records for a field that is NOT EMPTY, what is the code that you put in when using Find to locate those fields that are NOT EMPTY in forms view? - In other words the field you are seaching for has something in it. I thought you put in null or =null but that doesn't work.

Also, I just spent 45 minutes trying to locate help on the above subject via the Help menu, but I can't locate help on using Find and the various codes to use when searching fields in a form. Where do I go to read up on that? Thanks.

Search Access help for Find Null......

Joe,
You'll need to type in : 'is not null' et voila

Is not null doesn't work

Thanks, but 'is not null' does not work. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I guess it depends on how your doing your find but try: Not IsNull

HTH,
Shane

Not is Null doesn't work either

Doesn't somebody know this one. It's got to be an easy one...I pull up a form. I put my cursor is say, the Email field. I want to search for any record that has nothing in the email field, so I click on FIND - What do I type in the search entry field to locate records with nothing in the Email field????? Thanks.

From Access97 help searched on Find Null

Works fine for me if I type in Null or null. HTH

Find blank fields or zero-length strings using the Find dialog box

1 In Form or Datasheet view, click in the field (column) you want to search, and then click Find on the toolbar.
2 Do one of the following:

· To find unformatted blank fields, in the Find What box, type Null or Is Null, and make sure that the Search Fields As Formatted check box is not selected. If blank fields are formatted (such as "Unknown"), type the formatted string, and make sure that the Search Fields As Formatted check box is selected.
· To find zero-length strings, in the Find What box, type double quotation marks (""), with no spaces in between, and make sure that the Search Fields As Formatted check box is not selected.

3 In the Search box, select Up or Down.
4 In the Match box, make sure that Whole Field is selected.
5 Make sure that Search Only Current Field is selected.
6 To find the first occurrence of a blank in a field, click Find First. To find the next and all subsequent occurrences of a blank, continue clicking Find Next.

rather than click the field and do a search, click the filter by form icon, select the field to search and type IS NOT NULL, then click the Apply Filter icon

Ah, yes, stallyon, now I remember. Search by using the "filter by form icon" is the way to go when looking for a null or not null field, as well as to search for a host of other things. Man that was driving me nuts! Thanks to all who replied.
