Finding records

I am fairly new to Access and have no programming skills whatsoever ! I have used the wizards fairly well to build a database that does everything we need, but can somebody suggest how to improve the record search facility on a form ? The current type via the wizard is the usual excel "find record" system, which does not save the previous parameteres (such as "search in any part of field"). Is there a find record command that simply allows a user to key a request in a box on the db without the pop up search facility ?
