Dear AWF,

I need to distribute a Word form to people in other organisations and have them email it back. I want Word to at least default to, and ideally force, encryption as the form contents are confidential.

I created a .dot which is encrypted and prompts for a password on opening.
I then tested the form and saved the result as .doc
If I double-click the Document AND the Template is in the same directory, I get prompted for a password.
If the Template is in a different directory from the Document, the Document opens without requiring a password.

I am now confused - can anyone help?

Mr Smin

ps. Yes, I would much prefer a webform via https but it's not an option right now.

It seems your thread has been here for a few months, how have you got on?

I would recommend using a VBA form so when the attachment is opened the user would enter the password to continue then the form pops up on completion they use a send email button to return the contents to you.

The form would use bookmarks and you code the answer to the bookmarks.

If you need a sample reply and I will look to send you a sample.

_At the moment_ the number of people who have to use this form is small enough that I can talk to them on the phone if they have problems with encrypting.

I'm unfamiliar with VBA for Word so I'll do some research on that. Thanks for the suggestions. If you have an example you can post up that would be great too.

Mr Smin attached find a sample word document, when you open it it will show a VBA form that is part of the document, I have placed in some instructions so you can find your way around the back end if it is something you can use.

To get the contents returned to you then there will be more work to be done.

I hope it helps.
