Forcing leading zero in date mask

How do I force a leading zero to be shown in a text field?

What I have are three combo boxes where the user selects the date, which populates a field, but our format requires that there be a leading zero in front of any single digit month or day number. Access strips out the leading zero when populating the field.

Any assistance appreciated.

The text box must be formatted for a date. Use a custom format of mm/dd/yyyy.

I've done that, but it still strips out the leading zeroes. I've even tried making my own input mask with the same result.

The field in the form and the table must be formatted as a text or date field to retain the preceeding zeros.
