Form sizes

I have a form with a button on to open another form. Both these forms have DoCmd.Maximize in their On current (and On Load) events.

The second form is a continuous form and each record has a button to load a further form. This further form has a subform which itself also has a subform.

From this final subform I can open a further form. (FRMduff)
On closing down these forms using Docmd.close on each form I find earlier forms are no longer maximized.
This does not happen if do not open the final form (FRMduff)
Any thoughts please? (Access 2013, windows 7 64bit)

I seem to have cured the problem by putting DoCmd.maximize in the On Activate event of the form with the subforms.
Doesn't explain why I had the problem in the first place though.
