Hello,

Here is the background on my issue:

* I have a database that I have been using for a while, with a cadre of reports. This database (and all reports) was developed in Access 97. This database is split into a front-end / back-end configuration.

* I have successfully converted this into Access 2000. Therefore, I have 2 front-ends (one for 97 and one for 2000) that connect to the same back-end (in Access 97). This setup has worked well for some time. I make changes in Access 97 and simply convert a copy of the front-end database to Access 2000 when I want to roll out changes.

* Now, I need to create / maintain a front-end database for Access 2002 / XP. I used the Access 2000 front-end (which originated from Access 97) and was expecting to be prompted to convert. No such prompt appeared.

Issue:

* After running a report or 2, I saw the formatting was completely skewered to the left of the page. It was as if my margins were all off, but these reports are fine in Access 97 and 2000 versions.

Does anyone else have experience / can discuss the limitations with my approach of trying to use the same Access 97 reports in 2000 and 2002/XP?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I saw that several people viewed my post, but no one responded. That is OK ... I found what is causing the problem, and since I am a software tester, it was a very exciting find!

At my job, we have 2 printers: one is an HP 4100 and the other is an HP 8100. When the computer is set with the 8100 as the default printer, the reports are previewed askew. When I switched and set the HP 4100 as the default printer, and previewed the same report, it was fine.

What would be the workaround, other than to never use the other printer with my Access application? (I plan to check the HP website to see if they have any bulletins, patches, etc.)

Please feel free to respond. Also, if I find a fix, I will post it here as well. Thanks again!

One area I would check into would be the printers page setup. If someone had adjusted this in the past to accomidate a job, then the margins could still be askew.
Also in the newer access version, look under TOOLS-OPTIONS then the GENERAL tab and see what your margin settings are. The difference between the two printers is that one could be set to use the apps defaults and the other uses its own or standard.

Just a few thoughts.
