Hello all! I'm fairly new to Microsoft Access, so what I'm about to ask may sound silly. I am working on a real estate management program where I have a table called Tenants which lists all of my tenants and their related information. However, I have a field called Late Fee which is the amount of late fee that is owed when rent is not paid. I also have a Monthly Rent field. Therefore, Late Fee is equal to:

Late Fee = 0.05 * Monthly Rent

I can do this in excel and then import it, but I would like to have this automated in Access where I can click on a button from a form that will automatically calculate and post the late fee to the tenants account.

If there is a more better and efficient way of doing this and keep it all automated like I want it, I am open to suggestions as long as I'm told how to go from the table I have to the more efficient way.

Thanks!

Generally speaking, u don't want or need to have calculations stored in a table. U already have the Monthly fee stored, so all u need to do in a form or report is create a field called Late Fee or something and in its control source put:
= 0.05 * [Monthly Rent]

Or even better, create a query based on your table and add your calculation there...
LateFee: 0.05 * [Monthly Rent]

Thanks for the reply!

Basically I need to have the Late Fee stored in a table or somewhere so that when I go to print my late notices, I can go through my list of tenants and find ones that have an unpaid balance and add my late fee to it.

I guess I didn't make my first post clear of what exactly I'm trying to do. Basically, I want to have a late fee calculated and stored for all of my tenants based on the equation mentioned above. If a tenant doesn't pay their rent on time, I want the late fee added to my Balance field (which is set to 0 on the first of the month) and also add Monthly Rent to the Balance field at the first of every month. However, the monthly rent is added to balance first while the late fee is added on the 5th of every month.

If a tenant has not paid their rent by the 5th of the month, I want access to be able to print out late notices to every tenant that has a balance greater than 0.

So how would I go about accomplishing this?

Thanks!

Use a query and the DateDiff function to decide wether payments are late
