Does anyone know what the capabilities of MS graph 2000 are??

I am about to embark on a project where temperature data from several locations is entered into a database. There will be tonnes of data (ie min and max for 365 days a year for each site)

I would like to know:

Will MSgraph cope with heaps of records (ie 700 or so bits of data represented on the one graph)?

Can a graph from one site be overlayed over another site for comparison purposes?

Can I choose which graphs are overlayed (ie specify that I would like to compare site 1,3 and 4 by overlaying the graphs)?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Rachael: I don't know of any program that will reasonably give you 700 data points unless you're hooked up to a plotter. You know what that is? It's one of those "printers" that makes blueprints--you know--HUGE paper. Seven-hundred data points on even 11x17 paper is REALLY pushing it. Likewise, you better have a lot of RAM to be able to display a chart like that. I highly doubt you'd be happy with the results. I would not recommend it at all. I might recommend doing one chart for each month.

Can you place one literally on top of another? I wouldn't be thinking this would be easy if it could be done at all.

Unfortunately, you've posted this in the Access forum (though I don't know where it would be better posted) and I don't know if you can do it in Access (my weakness in Office, I hang out here hoping to learn it far better). So I'm not sure if you're talking about using MS Graph in Access or in any Office program or what, but I hope my comments have helped. BTW, MS Graph is ALMOST as good as Excel's charting.

I work in Environmental Health and also use masses of data - I personally would store the data in excel NOT access, after all excel is built for number crunching.

And as DreamBoat put it you'd need one mighty piece of paper to print that data - you could build a paper boat that we could all sail in!

Seriously though, if you use excel you could build a chart sheet per month - much better for viewing and analysing

Thanks for your comments guys, the one month option is the best way to go. I 'spose I wanted to use Access over excel to get the option (I think) of easily selecting the combinations of different sites to be displayed on the chart. I'll see how I go!!

Thanks very much for your comments, I now have a little more confidence in proceeding with this project.

Access or Excel

I have been given the project of figureing out how to manage 6-years worth of data. What the data is is data taken DAILY at 10 minute intervals. There are about 5 parameters that are taken at each reading. There may be a few weekends missing here and there.

What I need to do is to plot this data and some ratios of the parameters. Would Excel be better suited to this (since graphing is involed) or would Access be better since there is a LOT of data?

Does anyone know the limit to the number of data points that Excel or MSGraph can plot?

Check this other thread for details about a graphing product.
