I am getting an error when I try to use an expression in a control source with a particular field in a query. So I stripped it down to the bare minimum and just put an equal sign in front of the field name.

This works for every other field in the query, and this field works if I don't use an equal sign. But I get an error if I say "=[CancellingID]"

Any ideas?

Make sure that you don't have a control and data field with the same name, as Access will often be confused by it.

Bingo!

Thanks

HTH. That's one of my pet peeves, since the report wizard does exactly that (names the control the same as the data field). People use the wizard and then wonder why seemingly simple things don't work. How hard would it have been to have the wizard add a prefix to the data field name for the control name?
