get focus

how do i get a record to get focus when a form opens or a button is clicked on?

What kind of record? Do you mean the record your form is based on.

Goto Design view of your form and look at record source and filter. All you do is query for a certain record.

right click on your form while in design mode and select tab order, from the resulting popup you can drag the focus settings into whatever order you like
