I have been searching and read the forums and read the ACC2000 Cascading Combo Box tutorial. I have cascading combo boxes that almost work properly. The problem is I get a popup box asking for the value of the id I want to pass from one combo to the other. I am working within subform, I will attach the database for anyone who want to take a look. The form is the xxxxx_OrderForm, the combo boxes are customerID and branchLocation. Thanx.

You are not referring to the SubForm correctly and the MainForm needs to be open for it to work correctly as well. See if this link helps a bit.

Thanks for your reply.
I read the link and I have changed the IIF() to read:
IIf(IsNull([Forms]![mainForm]![mainContainerForm].[ustax_OrderForm]![customerID]),[Forms]![mainForm]![formContainerMain].[ustax_OrderForm]![branchCustomerParentID],[Forms]![mainForm]![mainContainerForm].[ustax_OrderForm]![customerID])
IIf(IsNull([Forms]![my main form]![my sub form].[the form]![the controll]...

And I still get the popup asking for the id. If I am doing this incorrectly can you please point out where I am wrong.

Try:
Forms!mainForm!mainContainerForm.FORM!customerID

Isn't that what I have with
[Forms]![mainForm]![mainContainerForm].[ustax_OrderForm]![customerID]

replace [ustax_OrderForm] with the word Form (exactly has RG has it)

also, the subform is formContainerMain, not mainContainerForm

Ok tried that, still the same. I get a popup asking for: [Forms]![mainForm]![mainContainerForm].[Form]![customerID]
If I put in an ID number branchLocation populates with proper values.

Here's the query criteria code that I updated, - it works for me

Code:
IIf(IsNull([Forms]![mainform]![formContainerMain].[form]![customerID]),[Forms]![mainform]![formContainerMain].[form]![branchCustomerParentID],[Forms]![mainform].[formcontainermain].[form]![customerID])

the code you listed says mainContainerForm, not formContainerMain

You have other problems with your db. See if this gets you a bit further along in the project.

Thanks guys, I see where one error was, I didn't have the word form in caps. RG, what were the other problems in the db?

As you continue to develop this application you will find and fix them. If you are still having trouble then post back and we'll assist again. Have fun.

Edit: The word FORM does not need to be in caps! I just did that for emphasis. Look at the file I uploaded.

RG, thanks for all the help...
If you are talking about the data in the db, that is all just test and trail and error data. Now that I have this portion working, I'll empty the tables and start with new dummy data that matches the functionality of the app. I'm a php/mysql guy, this is a favor for a client we have, so I am just plodding my way thru it.

You're welcome and have fun with the project. There are pleanty of good people here to assist if you have further problems that require some help.
