All, Using access 2010. I need to count customerid. Some customers have different companys with different names so a letter was added to the id to distinguish that is a different co under same custid. We want to count them as one customerid. I am having trouble grouping when the data set includes like data. Ex. 1250, 1250A and 1250B need to be group together to count as one. Please assist.

Do all the customer ID #s have 4 numbers preceding the letter? If so, you could try making a calculated field and trimming the first 4 characters.

So something like this:

CustIDGroup: Left([CustomerID],4)

And then group by the calculated field

Thanks for replying. The main customer has 4 digits. 1250. If they have different companies under them; the number adds a letter for each company thereafter. I would just want the main customer; 1250

Ok, so try the above solution. I think it will work. If you have problems post back.
