Hi,

I would like to introduce myself.
I am John and I first got interested in databases when I tried to take a organisations paper based system into an access database. At the time I didn't understand I was developing a flat-file database that would struggle to be useful. Anyway, by the time I had completed development the organisation had implemented an 'enterprise' solution.

Later, as a mature student I completed MSc conversion course and began to understand relational databases. Directly after this I started teaching a database module in a further education college that used access. I quickly learned how little I knew and was forced to think on my feet and learn.

At the moment I have been asked to look at my organisations access 2003 based database that has been in operation for about 6 years. I find that there are no relations between more than 10 tables and wondered how reports are still being produced - can anyone help answer this please?

I must admit I am feeling a little out of my depth trying to improve this system but because of the restrictions imposed by this organisation it's impossible to bring anyone in from the OUTSIDE

Best wishes,

John
