Howdy,

I'm pretty much an Access newbie, so if you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to create a report on a table I've made. The part of the table I want to report on has two columns, Case No. and Category of Need. Case No. column is just a series of numbers, whereas Cat. of Need has usually one number, but sometimes two or three, seperated by a comma or two. I created a little query just to show these two columns, but I'm not sure what I need to do next. The end product that I require is a list of each Category of need, followed by the amount of times it occurs in the table.

If you want more info, just ask.

Cheers, Conor

You should do all this in a query instead of your report.
What you need to do is create another query and use your previous one as it's source. Now, click the summation button in the menu. Use the same field twice. Once with "Group by" and once with "Count".
Use that new query as the source of your report.
Voilà!

Fantastic, that worked quite beautifully. Much appreciated, I'll probably be back for more!

Numbers separated by commas

It might improve the design of your database if you put each of the numbers that are separated by commas into new records. So Case Number would have multiple rows; one for each Category of Need.

Ye, that would have been a little easier. However, I didn't actually need more than one Cat of Need, so I could get rid of that problem before I ran into it. Thanks for the help anyway.
