look up the "LIKE" operator and post back if you have any questions.

Or use the example here which searches as you type.

If you're interested, Access 97 Power Programming by F. Scott Barker has a demo video search form in it in Chapter 6. Curiously, it does not have a facility to search by title or partial title, but it will allow searches by category, rating and purchase date. Perhaps you can adapt some of the ideas for your own application. The sample form still is a good example of how to build a query-by-form.

na,i still cant sort it. and that search thing doesnt do what i want it to for me..
ive been trying to do this for ages and its not working.

any help would be much apprecaited.

ive got other seraches for categories etc, but i just want it so that i can search the word 'star' and star wars, star trek, etc films come up. (im just using star as a word, cause i could think of it)

chrischris, "LIKE" should work for that.

Example..
Titles..
Star Wars
Star Trek
Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer
The Start of Something Big

Filter/Query using Like *Star*
Star Wars
Star Trek
The Start of Something Big

i just dont understand what your sying. i cant get a like operator up,cause the school is awful and help hasnt been installed on the network.

ive tried all that ^ ^ and nothing seems to work.

Create a query based on your film table selecting the fields you need. Under the 'Film title' field, in the criteria, put the following...

Like "*" & [Enter text to search by: ] & "*"

and run the query. If you enter nothing, all records will show.

Filter/Query using Like *Star*

Like "*Star*"

Although I wouldn't explicitly put "*Star*" as the criteria. I'd have a textbox on a form and have the criteria as: Like "*" & Forms!MyForm!MyTextbox & "*"
