I have a contacts database and I am trying to set the relationship between the contacts table and the locality table. The contacts table has a LocalityID field that is a long integer and the Locality table has an autonumber as the PK. When I drag the LocalityID on one table to the other LocalityID I get the Can't create this relationship. When I look at the Edit Relationship dialog box the primary table is the Locality table not the Contacts table. I want set up a lookup on the contacts form that relates to locality.

What am I doing wrong? :banghead:

Thanks for reading my post.

I have tried creating a new database with two tables Contacts and Locality and I am having the same problem the Loocality table is the primary table and so the one to many relationship goes the wrong way.

Using your description, I created a test sample. In the Edit Relation dialog, the Locale table was on the left (the one side), and the Contacts table was on the right (the many side). It worked as desired. Are you certain of your table structure?

Thanks Kipcliff, I have sorted it out. I think a couple of grey hairs got in the way!

It can happen to us all. I am glad it is working well. :)
