I recently inherited a .ADP file that is the front-end of a 2012 SQL Server database. The program managers want me to add a field to a table and to create a new report.

When I open the .ADP file, the following message appears:
"Read-Only This database has been opened read-only. You can only change data in linked tables. To make design changes, save a copy of the database."

I assume that once I make the changes in a copied .ADP I can then have everyone get out of the original .ADP file, rename the original .ADP file (for save keeping), and rename the copied file the name of the .ADP original file.

I am having a hard time finding any literature on this issue. Any help or reference will be appreciated. Even if it is just to say that my understanding is correct.

Thanks.
