Helping a newbie: Calculated Field (?)

Hello! If you are willing to help a newbie I would very much appreciate it. What I'm trying to do is this:

Table One: Volunteer Name
Table Two: Volunteer Hours entered by two columns: date and hours

The tables are joined by a volunteer id number.

What I would like to do is have access give me a total amount of each volunteers hours for the year along with their name.

I've attempted queries but (for example) I get 8 different entries for Elizabeth with each listing of the day and her hours, I would like to have a total.

Can anyone help?
