...I am 55 (56 on 25June, YIKES!) and I live in a small cottage in a village named Verplanck in New York State, USA. In fact, I just recently moved here from San Francisco to be near my two daughters. I am a technical writer and, now that I've moved, I still work for the same Berkeley, CA-based company--albeit, remotely from home. I love movies, reading, swimming, and being a mom. Hmmm, are you asleep yet?

Welcome Suzy! Looks like we have similar geographic issues. Between my wife and I we have 3 daughters, and the 1 in NYC is the closest one to us (and we're in Nevada 3,000 miles away). The others are in England and Nepal. We feel like they're trying to get as far away from us as possible! :p

Hi, Paul

These days kids just scatter to the far corners of the Earth--literally! I feel for you and your wife. You must miss them terribly. When I relocated to NY be near my daughters (ages 21 and 29), I left a son (age 33) in San Francisco. I'm torn! But I think boys and girls are different in that most boys tend to just hit the ground running in life, while most girls appreciate having their mom close by for advice and security. IMHO, that is...
