Hi, I was wondering, is it possible to disable the ability to hold shift when opening a .mde file?

why what is your purpose for that? do you really mean upon opening of the mde file or upon opening or loading of your startup form.

I'm trying to disable the ablity for people to access the backend of my database from the frontend..

yes ofcourse. first set the database password of your backend and then setup the allowbypasskey for your frontend.

are you really new in Access? anyway you can click help on your access and type allowbypasskey. it will give you the answer.

be careful actually using that for you may not enter you database easily....lol

And that is why the posted link shows how to set it up so you, as an administrator, can re-enable it for you to use.

(whatever you do - make a copy first in case you honk it up)

yep that is true SOS. but what if after disabling the bypass and forgot to re-enable the bypass and there is no shortcut of the form in his menubar or toolbar, how could he re-enable it again?

on the otherhand, i agree making backup before making any changes.

wow. that is really a shitty. so tell me SOS how would you protect your frontend objects now when you can even re-enable the bypass key!

this is aside from making a MDE file.

on the other hand, as I can recall, I read an article on how to secure the allowbypasskey but I cant recall where.

Yes. The link I gave has an actual working Access database which lets you select any other Access database and then enable or disable using the form and the browse feature.

I just do the best I can as I don't sell them for a living. I work for a company that uses them internally.
