Hi

Can anyone tell me how I can create a switchboard without using the Switchboard manager?

I want to create my own menu that will allow the user to add or edit forms. But im not sure how to do this. Does this involve VBA coding?

in tools (main menu)
check start up

should do it

open the D/based up and look at tools then look at start up
you should be able to put whatever form up there (I think)

Bit more...

Use a new unbound form. Use the button wizard to create buttons on your form to do whatever you want. As Gary says, set this form to open on startup. You now have your own switchboard.

Let me add to this with a simple explanation.

First, to create a switchboard...

Define all the OTHER forms first.

Then create an empty form.

Then be sure to turn on the control wizards.

Then add command buttons. With the wizards enabled, you get a list of possible actions that the button can perform. One of those actions is to open a form or report. Select the Open Form option. The wizard will ask you to select the form you want opened. (Which is why you create the other forms first.) Select it. Enter titles, other stuff. When you click Finish on the wizard dialog, you are done (for that switchboard button.) Repeat as needed.

BUT... beware of this idea to allow a user to add or create forms. In a shared database, you NEVER EVER IN TEN GAZILLION YEARS want to allow users to create new forms or reports. Unless you are ready to go back and spend 16 hours a day cleaning up after careless, slovenly, useless users who will create a report but never bother to get rid of it. And probably will only use it once and forget about it. Leaving it to you to clean up the mess.

Do you see my alternate name? "Sr. Systems Janitor" ??

I've spent literally DECADES cleaning up after other people who don't know enough to keep a clean machine. They not only don't know how, but WHY to keep things clean. So I've made a career out of riding herd on a useless bunch of uncaring, unappreciative, hopeless schmucks who have no clue as to how to be neat about their work.

PLEASE don't do this to yourself unless you do a BE/FE split first. (Look up that topic in the forum help.) Then let the slovenly slobs clean up their own messes, and all you do is keep the master FE and the BE clean. Refuse to clean up their copy of the FE. Tell them to just copy a new FE and delete the old one. Clean it up wholesale rather than piecemeal.
