How could I put a value in a textbox using a query

Good day everyone.. am new here... can you help me bout this. i have to create a report where unbound textboxes may contain values based on the query criteria, i am presently working with a school registrar creating the official transcript of records system.

do you know exactly what you are trying to put in your text box? which section of the report is it in?

I think I had problems trying to write into unbound textboxes, so I use labels instead. Try using a label instead, then mylabel.caption = "whatever text you want" (Has to be label.caption)

Thnks for a reply. i tried to put it in a details section. i wnt to put a value specified in query. i have two tables: subjects and groups. 1 group could have many subjects. now using the groupname, i wnt that my textbox or label for that matter have a value or caption. Example: Philosophy 1 (subject) is under group1 (textbox or label), then a credit of 3 units (a field frm subject table) should be a value or caption of group1. Please help me about it.

which report and which field are you trying to get working?

Sorry - I now see there is only one form - but when I ran it, every field seemed to be populated OK.

I'm not sure what you mean, but in the report, in design mode, go to sorting and grouping, and add groupname as a third sort criteria, and add a groupheader for the groupname. Does that give you the layout you want?

sory for a long vacation in the forum.. please try to passby the startup form i set. if u have still time, please c the relationship so u can suggest what changes i should make. by this time, i have tried to add fields in my transaction table like g1,g2 gn... and use the update query to fill in the credit unit from other table(subject) based on the criteria a have set. it worked but what i wnt to knw now is how to automate this update query into a code.. ples help me! tnx a lot!
