Im just curious on how some of you made a career by creating DB's for clients. Everything I see is generally some other program besides Access. Is Access something I should not learn because there is no demand or is this strictly free lance work?

These past few months have captivated my imagination and I have enjoyed creating my database and all the countless times I learn something new. However Im to the point where I am asking myself if the hours and time spent learning all of this will be useless because I am contemplating the idea to make this a career (oddly enough I enjoy it that much!)

Thank you for the input!

From my experience, many companies dont use access because they dont have someone who knows it.
when i came in to where i currently am, they were doing everything in excel. they dont realize that excel is a number cruncher, access is a database, they think it is exchangeable. I have developed quite a few things for them, transferring from excel to access. now that i am leaving the company, they are all freaking out, because i was really the only one who knew access.
i think there is a great need for databases and companies dont know what it can accomplish so they get workarounds that work for some time and then they get too big and tedious.
access is a nice tool for small databases, however learning SQL server, oracle, etc, may really serve you better as a career, because the larger corporations and software companies use those because they are more powerful.
i learned access first and that helped me understand a lot of the more powerful options.
also a few programming classes - VB, VBA, and now .NET will be helpful as well.
