How do I use a pivot chart to display information

I am creating a form that the user clicks on a button and needs to be able to pull up a bar chart showing the results of the query. How do I use a pivot chart? I have never used one and it needs to display things like the most to the least downtime minutes per department and I don't know how to use one. Anything would be great.
