In my report I am trying to arrange percentages in ascending order by using "View" and then "Sorting and Grouping" which works with other fields like last name, date, etc. But the percentage that I am trying to arrange is a calculation - a smaller number divided by a larger number, and it won't work when I try to put the resulting percentages in ascending order. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know what you mean

Where do I carry out the calculations in the underlying query? I tried to do it under the percentage field under criteria. I right click and use build, but that is not working.

In the query design grid, the expression for the calculation should be entered in the "Field" box, not the "Criteria" box.

Won't sort, get overflow message because I have too many decimals for it to sort

Yes, I have figured that out and done that, but since the percentage figures are the result of one number being divided into another, the numbers are many decimal places long like .8230840284023840, and then when I try to sort ascending, I get an "overflow" message, and it won't sort them. I have tried limiting it to just two decimals under "properties,", but I still keep getting the "overflow" message. Thanks for any more help you can offer.
